Chance for Childhood and Hope for Children have started the process of merging to help even more children in the most vulnerable situations have the future they deserve.

Why are we joining forces?

We are stronger together – we are in a unique position where we share the same values and want to achieve the same goal. Together, we can help even more children in the most vulnerable situations, have the future they deserve. By uniting we will be better placed to streamline projects, increase our reach and share expertise.

Together we can create lasting change for every child threatened by violence, neglect and conflict.

In the last three years Chance for Childhood has supported over 23,400 children across Rwanda, Uganda, Ghana, Kenya and the DRC and now we will be able to support even more.

How will the merger work?

The merger will unfold in two stages over the next 12 to 18 months, beginning in March 2024. During this initial phase, both organisations will maintain their respective operations and systems. This period will be dedicated to identifying and integrating synergies in administrative functions, financial structures, and programmatic initiatives.

This approach ensures minimising disruption to ongoing projects and safeguarding continued support for the children they serve. The second phase will form a single unified organisation.

United by shared values and a common goal, this merger unlocks immense potential for both charities. Together, they will:

  • Champion equal opportunities: Reshape the uneven power dynamics within communities, advocating for equitable outcomes for all children.
  • Create Sustainable futures: Implement sustainable, child-centered interventions, placing communities and partnerships at the heart of decision-making.
  • Amplify Children’s voices: By increasing influence and impact on policy and by presenting a united front, backed by extensive expertise.
  • Maximise resources: Streamline operations and pool resources, directing more funding directly towards impactful programs and the children who need it most.

“This merger signifies a crucial leap forward in our collective effort to equip children with the tools and resources they need to reach their full potential,” Anna mai Andrews, CEO of Chance for Childhood

Geoff Cordell, Interim CEO, Hope for Children said: “By joining forces with our sister NGO, we’ll double our impactamplify our voice, and reach even more children in the most vulnerable situations, all while remaining true to our values.”

About Chance for Childhood

Chance for Childhood believes that no child should have to fight for a safe, happy childhood. They exist to ensure that every child in Africa can thrive from their early years through to adulthood.

Chance for Childhood was founded in 1992 originally under the name ‘Jubilee Action’. In that time they have merged with other like-minded organisations, Street Child Africa and Glad’s House UK, and have worked to champion the rights of children in Brazil, the Philippines and the five countries in Africa where they focus their work now; Rwanda, Uganda, Ghana, Kenya and DRC.

About Hope for Children

Founded in 1994, Hope for Children primarily works in Sri Lanka, India, Uganda and Kenya. Working with children living in extreme poverty, Hope for Children’s mission has always been to provide children with quality education, access to healthcare and providing sustainable incomes for families so children are not relied upon to support their families financially.

Staff jobs will be protected. All staff will transfer under existing terms and conditions of employment to the new organisation in line with TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings and Protected Employment rights) requirements.
