Case study: Dow Chemical Company
In 2012, The Dow Chemical Company partnered with us to ensure their London 2012 Olympic Legacy as a key sponsor of the Olympics and designer of the Olympic Stadium Wrap.
DOW Chemical Company repurposed and recycled the wrap that once surrounded the Olympic Stadium and transported the materials to the former refugee camp, Patongo in Northern Uganda, where they created a new, shaded, outside space for the Patongo Youth Centre.
This new space was created not only in partnership with Chance for Childhood, but with the young people of Patongo many of who are former child soldiers, incredibly grateful to have learned new skills and techniques as they assisted in the construction.
Our partnership provided extensive positive press coverage for DOW in demonstrating their ethnical credentials. The official opening ceremony attracted several high level ministries to travel to the region, some of these national leaders were startled at the poverty levels in this region and it brought renewed interest in wider country level investments.
Now the space is essential to the Youth Centre’s training activities – from here we run ‘plant clinics’ clinics for young people to learn about agricultural techniques and pest control so they can increase the yield of their crops and earn themselves a more sustainable income.
