Right now, thousands of vulnerable children are at risk because their brains aren’t developing.
Your first 1,000 days would have shaped the person you are today. But children who are living on the streets, or growing up with a disability in rural Rwanda, are missing out on vital nutrition and stimulation.
The quicker we act, the sooner we can prevent this irreversible damage from getting worse. We’ve just launched a crowdfunder to reach the children who need your support the most. Your help could provide vital early childhood support. Will you please donate today to give them the best beginnings possible?
In the first 1,000 days of our lives, we develop at a breath-taking pace. Our brains grow faster than at any other time in our lives. So, the way we experience and interact with the world around us is vital to our future health and wellbeing.
Baby Kofi and his mum live in an unsafe wooden shack, in the heart of Accra’s slums. His mum works long days as a ‘kayayoo’, a market porter. She carries heavy loads for long hours in return for just a few pence a day. The job is a tiny lifeline giving them barely enough to survive.
Spending all day in the hot sun, carried around by his mum in the market, Kofi is malnourished. He has sores on his lips, while his clothes are torn and feet without shoes. His mum simply can’t afford them.
Kofi’s hair was pale, a sign of malnutrition that leads to stunted growth. Without immediate support, Kofi won’t fully develop. This would set him back for life. As well as being physically smaller, his brain would grow more slowly. He’d fall behind his peers in school, and be more susceptible to disease as an adult. For Kofi, the chance of a healthy and fulfilled childhood is slipping away.

It’s not too late – your support can shape children like Kofi’s future
But there is hope – it’s not too late to help Kofi and thousands of children like him across the five countries we work in. The quicker we act, the sooner we can prevent this irreversible damage from getting worse. We’ve just launched a crowdfunder to reach the children who need your support the most. Your help could provide vital early childhood support.
£55 could help a child access early education. Not only is it a chance for them to explore their curiosity and learn social skills in a safe environment, but it’s essential to their whole future. Will you please donate today?

Our crowdfunder ends on 9th March. Every donation will help to reach the most vulnerable children with essential early childhood development.
