In Rwanda, schools had to close because of the pandemic. The school for deaf children we support with our partner EmCD was shut for months, leading to children being stuck at home and falling behind on their education. Although teachers regularly reached out to children over the phone, the support they can give remotely doesn’t compare to children being back in the classroom! Now, some children have been able to return – with handwashing, social distancing and masks in place.
Temperature checks on arrival A new handwashing facility has been built
Children have to be socially distanced in the classrooms and at lunchtime, so desks and tables have been marked to help them keep apart.
Face masks have to be worn in the classroom Desks are marked so children can keep their distance
Sports have also returned at the school, with extra measures to keep children safe!
We’re so pleased to see students starting to return to school after all these months and we hope to welcome back students who haven’t been able to come back as soon as possible.
