Who will be the real winners of the Olympic Games? PM David Cameron announces the date of the Food Summit.
While the Olympics are underway, the fight against hunger has made a breakthrough as PM David Cameron declares that the Food Summit will take place on the last day of the games on 12th August.
Cameron made the announcement after UNICEF Ambassador David Beckham urged the Prime Minister to take immediate action.
“During the coming weeks all eyes will be on London for the greatest show on Earth”, Beckham stated. “As a UNICEF Ambassador, I’m asking the Prime Minister to use the global spotlight on our nation to make children around the world the real winners of these Games.”
Beckham personally delivered a letter addressed to Cameron that has been co-signed by over 50 star figures, including Ewan McGregor, Lewis Hamilton, Robbie Williams, Claudia Schiffer, Whoopi Goldberg, and Orlando Bloom.
The letter states that around 180 million children under the age of 5 are affected by malnutrition, which causes an irreversible damage to the brain and body which dramatically effects their learning and future working abilities.
It also asserted that by tackling world-hunger now, it will not only stop millions of children from suffering unnecessarily, but will also prove to be a cost-effective action by developing foreign economies.
Now that the date has been set, perhaps the results of the Olympics will mean lot more than usual, in the coming together of nations.
