On 26th of April, four determined runners participated in the prestigious and world famous Virgin Money London Marathon. Running in the London Marathon is not at all an easy task for all of the first-time marathon runners. But our inspiring supporters have spent months not only preparing for the race, but also raising vital funds to support our work, to give children a chance for childhood.
From Fall 2014, Anna, Tom, Matt and Adam proactively organised a variety of fundraising events ranging from bake sales to sponsored swims and even a dodgeball tournament that made the local newspaper! They have also directed family and friends to sponsor them through their Virgin Money Giving donation websites, spread word on social media, and put together videos to create awareness. In total, they helped raise close to a staggering £8,000 to support our work with the most vulnerable children in East Africa.

On marathon day, two of Chance for Childhood’s staff headed into London in the early morning to cheer on the runners. Extremely inspired by their effort and sheer determination to finish the run, they managed to spot 3 of their runners in a crowd of over 40,000! All four runners crossed the finish line with impressive time record—the two fastest of the group finished just before 4 hours and 30 minutes, not bad at all for a first ever marathon!

The London Marathon is truly an inspiring and uplifting event where thousands of people all come together to support their charity of choice. We, here at Chance for Childhood, are extremely grateful for Adam, Anna, Matt, Tom, and all their sponsors’ support. We very much look forward to next year’s marathon and cannot wait to support more runners in this challenging but meaningful journey.
