Our focus

Our focus has always been to reach children in vulnerable situations whose basic needs and rights are not met elsewhere. Over the past five years, Chance for Childhood has worked with our dedicated local staff and partners to define and identify those children most in need of our support.

Gender and disability are significant factors of exclusion and marginalisation for children in vulnerable situations. That is why we will ensure inclusion for all children, and especially girls, and those living with disabilities.

The needs of children and young people living in vulnerable situations remain vast, and are not routinely addressed with inclusiveness, dignity, equity or at all

Overexposed Campaign

In 2022, we launched our Overexposed campaign, which started a conversation about how we use images and tell stories in the sector. Together with over 35 other organisations, we sought to reframe thinking and create better practices and policies around child-centred imagery and storytelling. We have now integrated this as part of our values and strategy. As a result, we took a pledge to:

  • We will prioritise the rights and well-being of the children sharing their stories with Chance for Childhood.
  • We acknowledge that informed consent is complex, can change over time and may not always be possible.
  • We will share stories of children using positive strength-based language.
  • We will actively ensure that no child is put at risk by the way we share their story online.
  • Above all, Chance for Childhood will continuously reflect on the power and responsibility we hold in collecting and using stories and images of children.

As part of OverExposed, Chance for Childhood has taken the decision to remove identifiable features of children from imagery and video footage, this will include removing children’s faces from all fundraising campaigns.
