Hope for Children, Chance for Childhood (local partner)
Why is the project needed?
Children attending the Surdhashan Preschool come from impoverished families who face multiple challenges, including drug abuse, debt, sex work, and imprisonment of family members. These children are at high risk of malnutrition and lack access to basic education. The project aims to give them the foundation they need for emotional growth and educational development.
About the Project
The Moratuwa Social Service Society operates the Surdhashan Preschool, providing early-childhood education and social development for 22 pupils from families living in extreme poverty. The programme supplies milk, lunch, books, and uniforms to the students, while also covering some operational costs of the preschool. Children attending the school are regularly weighed and monitored for malnutrition, as many come from families with limited access to nutritious food.
